Book review: Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Picture
Finished reading: 31 May 2024
Rating: 3.5/5

Saddle up your dragons, it’s time to get into the well-known Empyrean Series by Rebecca Yarros by jumping into the first book: Fourth Wing.

This was one of those books that was all of a sudden right in my face at every turn: it was all over social media, people around me were talking about it, and I saw it on so many shelves at different stores that I knew I needed to get it for myself to see what the hype was all about.

And, let me just say, I did have to give myself a moment to decide if I was going to go ahead with this book when I first started reading it. And, by the end of it, I was glad I pushed through.

NOTE: This book is NOT for young eyeballs. You’ve been warned.

Series review: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Picture
Reading timeline: 3 January 2024 – 9 May 2024
Overall rating: 4.25/5

An eight-part series which includes a collection of short stories that acts as the prequel, the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas is a long and brilliant young adult fantasy series that follows the story of Celaena Sardothien—the greatest assassin in Rifthold.

We’ve been on quite the journey to get here, and now it’s time to wrap this epic series up.

I have tried to limit the spoilers in this series wrap up, however with so many books and so many plot twists here, there and everywhere, I would proceed with caution. To be safe, I’d suggest reading the series first before jumping into this!

Throwback book review: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Picture
Previously reviewed: 22 November 2018
Rating: 5/5

We’re back to another throwback book review, this time looking at the inspiring story by Paulo Coelho: The Alchemist.

You ever have those moments where you hear a reference to something, and then for the next few days it seems like everyone’s talking about it. Your social media is feeding you ads about this specific thing, and you just feel like its following you around?

That’s what happened with me back in 2018 when it came to The Alchemist. I had never heard the book before until I heard it in a Macklemore lyric. Then, I kept on hearing people talk about this amazing little story that was inspiring them. Before I knew it, I had someone at the place I worked at in 2018 recommending me to read it.

Why do I want to return to it now? Strangely enough, there’s been some things happening in my life that have had me thinking about this book. So, I thought it only right to come back to it and reflect on how I feel about it now after all these years, and why it’s been on my mind.
